Travatan is no longer available in the United States.
Travatan is a prescription medication that's used to treat increased pressure in the eye (ocular hypertension) due to open-angle glaucoma or other eye problems. Travatan is usually used for people who can’t take other medications or for whom other medications aren’t effective. Travatan is a type of medication called a prostaglandin analog, and it helps to maintain a normal pressure level in the eye by regulating fluid drainage from the eye. Travatan is available as an eye drop that’s usually applied to the affected eye once a day. To use this medication, remove contact lenses (if you wear them). Tilt your head back, pull your lower eyelid away from your eye, and drop the medication into the lower eyelid. Close your eye and apply pressure to the inside corner of your eye for a few minutes. You can put your contacts back in 15 minutes after you use Travatan. Always make sure you take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Travatan is manufactured by Alcon Laboratories, Inc., and there are currently no generic versions available. The first patents for Travatan expire in August 2013, which is the earliest there could be a generic version of Travatan. Talk to your doctor to determine whether Travatan is right for you.Continue Learning about Pharmacology
