Timolide is no longer available in the United States.
Timolide is a prescription brand name drug containing a combination of timolol and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) in tablet form. This medication is used to treat high blood pressure. The timolol component belongs to a class of drugs known as beta-blockers which work by decreasing heart rate and decreasing tone in the smooth muscles of blood vessels. The walls of the blood vessels relax, thereby decreasing blood pressure. The hydrochlorothiazide component is known as a thiazide diuretic. Thiazides decrease the amount of fluid in the body by increasing urine output and preventing absorption of sodium by the kidneys. This also helps decrease blood pressure. Timolide has been discontinued.
