What is M-R-Vax?

M-R-Vax is no longer available in the US. Instead, the two components - measles vaccine and rubella vaccine - are available in combination with mumps vaccine as M-M-R II and with mumps virus, plus varicella virus vaccines as ProQuad.

M-R-Vax is a combination vaccine that contains live measles and rubella (German measles) viruses. It is administered by a healthcare professional, such as a doctor, nurse or pharmacist. The vaccine is made from live viruses that should be too weak to make you sick but which will make your immune system produce a substance (antibodies) that will protect you from the infection if you are ever exposed to it. It is recommended that everyone over one year of age should be immunized against the measles and rubella, especially if you are traveling outside the United States or if you are a woman of childbearing age. Children should receive M-R-Vax after they are one year of age.
