What is Histinex HC?

Histinex HC is no longer available in the United States.

Histinex HC is the brand name of the combination drug that contains chlorpheniramine, hydrocodone and phenylephrine in a syrup formulation. It is used to treat the symptoms of the common cold and other acute respiratory infections, including runny nose, stuffy nose, sinus congestion and cough. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine which blocks the sneezing, itching, watery eyes and runny nose that are caused by natural histamine production in the body. Hydrocodone suppresses the coughing by blocking the cough messages in the brain. Phenylephrine is a nasal decongestant that shrinks blood vessels in the nose to reverse nasal congestion.
