Ethiodized oil is no longer available in the United States.
Ethiodized oil is a fluid that appears white on an x-ray film. When it is injected into certain parts of the body, it can highlight lymph nodes and vessels or a woman’s fallopian tubes and the area around her uterus. These x-ray procedures, called lymphangiography or lymph node angiogram and hysterosalpingography, can help a doctor to diagnose problems.
Ethiodized oil contains a combination of iodine and poppyseed oil. Ethiodol is the brand of ethiodized oil used in the United States. It is available only by prescription.
