Cromolyn sodium is an oral, anti-inflammatory prescription medication. It is prescribed to treat systemic mastocytosis and inflammatory bowel disease. Cromolyn sodium works by preventing mast cells from releasing substances that trigger an allergic reaction. It helps manage symptoms associated with systemic mastocytosis and inflammatory bowel disease, including diarrhea, flushed and itchy skin, headaches, nausea, and stomach pain. It is also known by the brand name Gastrocrom.
