What is cisapride?

Cisapride is no longer available in the United States.

Cisapride (Propulsid) is a special prescription medication used to treat night-time heartburn if other drugs do not work. In the US, cisapride is restricted and cannot be prescribed unless your doctor is signed up in a special FDA-regulated program. This is because some people may experience serious side effects.
