What is Baycol?

Baycol is no longer available in the United States.

Baycol is the brand name for the anti-cholesterol medication cervistatin. Cholesterol comes in two forms, HDL ("good") and LDL ("bad"). Too much LDL or too little HDL cholesterol can lead to artery hardening and strokes or heart attacks. Baycol reduces amounts of LDL cholesterol in the blood while raising HDL, as well as reducing certain fats and proteins that lead to the production of LDL cholesterol. As of 2001 it is no longer marketed in the United States.
