What should my child avoid while taking Onfi?

While taking the anti-seizure drug Onfi (clobazam), your child should avoid:

• driving, if she's old enough, or operating complex machinery until you know how Onfi affects her. It may cause sleepiness, dizziness, clumsiness or slow her reaction time, possibly increasing the risk for accidents.
• taking other medications, especially drugs that depress her central nervous system, herbal remedies or supplements without consulting the doctor first
• becoming pregnant, if she's old enough to be sexually active
• drinking alcohol, which can worsen Onfi's side effects
• discontinuing the drug without consulting the doctor. Stopping Onfi abruptly may cause serious withdrawal symptoms, including severe seizures.

If your daughter is old enough to be sexually active, talk to the doctor about an effective method of birth control. Onfi may reduce the effectiveness of hormonal methods, including pills, patches, rings, injections, implants or certain types of intrauterine devices (IUDs). Ask the doctor about the best way for your daughter to prevent pregnancy while taking Onfi.
