Older adults should use caution when taking Stribild (elvitegravir, cobicistat, emtricitabine and tenofovir), a prescription medicine used to treat human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1). Studies so far have not included enough people ages 65 and older to show whether they respond the same as younger adults when taking Stribild. Some of Stribild's active ingredients have not been thoroughly studied in older populations.
If your doctor prescribes Stribild for you, he or she may prescribe a relatively low dose, because you're more likely than younger people to have medical conditions that can increase the risk for side effects. You may also be on other medications that can interact with Stribild.
