How should I take Linzess?

Linzess (linaclotide) should be taken on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. Linzess can be prescribed for adults with one of two conditions: irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) or chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) -- chronic constipation that has no clear cause. For IBS-C, the typical dosage is 290 micrograms (mcg), taken at least half an hour before eating. For CIC, the typical dosage is 145 mcg, taken at least half an hour before eating. Swallow the capsules whole; do not chew or break them open.
