People with schizotypal personality disorder face an increased risk of developing additional mood and personality disorders. This can cause a great amount of distress as people become unable to communicate and act in appropriate ways. The disorder often is accompanied by magical thinking, where people with the disorder might believe they can control others' thoughts, see ghosts, and find personal meaning in random patterns.

People with schizotypal personality disorder might experience these symptoms:

• Feelings of sadness and frequent worries
• Panic attacks and anxiety
• Obsessions and compulsions that cause great distress

To reduce the difficulties and complications associated with schizotypal personality disorder, people can take medication and participate in individual and group therapy.
