Peritoneal diseases can be serious for children, depending on the type of disease they have and what kind of treatment they are receiving. Some peritoneal disorders that affect infants and children more often than adults include volvulus, intussusception, and meconium peritonitis. All three of these disorders are intestinal issues that can lead to serious infection if not treated promptly. Peritonitis in particular can lead to blood infections and sepsis, a deadly infection that attacks all the organs in your body.
