Are there alternative treatments for chronic periodontitis?

There are some simple lifestyle choices that can decrease your risk of developing chronic periodontitis. Decrease risks of developing periodontal disease by doing the following:

  • brushing two times daily and using floss and mouthwash;
  • scheduling regular dental checkups;
  • reducing intake of sugary foods and having a healthy diet;
  • quitting smoking;
  • drinking adequate water.

Although lifestyle choices are important for preventing chronic periodontitis, once the condition develops, more extensive treatments may be required.
