Balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO) is a skin condition that is a common cause of phimosis. BXO's distinguishing feature is distinct white, hardened patches that form in the foreskin. The condition causes the foreskin to tighten to the point that it can no longer retract. Circumcision is often used as a cure.
