Your doctor may try one or more of several surgical procedures, freezing off cancer cells with liquid nitrogen, excising (cutting) out the tumor, destroying growths with lasers, or performing Mohs surgery, in which the doctor cuts out the tumor layer by layer, proceeding carefully in order to ensure minimal loss of surrounding healthy tissue. For superficial penile cancers, medicated creams or lotions may be applied to eliminate the problem. For advanced penile cancers, where the cancer has spread to other parts of the genitalia or the rest of the body, radiation therapy or chemotherapy may be required.
