How long does penile cancer last?

Penile cancer lasts until treatment removes it from your body. Small or early stage cancers may be relatively easy to remove and never return. Some penile cancers may be removed repeatedly but return to be dealt with again. If left untreated for an extended period of time, the cancer may spread to other areas of the body. The survival rate 5 years after diagnosis with penile cancer depends on this progression. If the cancer has:

• remained in the skin cells of the penis: 85% survival rate after 5 years
• traveled to lymph nodes or other parts of the genitalia or groin: 59% after 5 years
• moved to parts of the body far removed from the penis, such as the lungs: 11% after 5 years
