The intravenous solution of ampicillin should be clear and not have anything floating in it. Make sure there are no leaks in the solution bag. You can tell by gently squeezing the bag. If the solution is discolored in any way or if there are leaks or foreign material in the bag, do not use that solution of ampicillin. Use a new bag, but be sure to tell your doctor or health care provider about the damaged solution.
