What is penicillin V potassium?

Penicillin V Potassium (VK) is an antibiotic administered in tablet form and powder for oral solution. This drug is only used to prevent or treat mild to moderately severe infections that are most likely caused by bacteria. This includes pneumonia, ear, skin and throat infections; and scarlet fever. It does not effectively treat viral infections such flu. Brand names for Penicillin V Potassium (VK) include Penicillin VK and V-Cillin K.
