What is amoxicillin used to treat?

Amoxicillin is a penicillin-like antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, nose, throat or skin. Amoxicillin can be prescribed to treat bronchitis or pneumonia. Antibiotics only work on bacterial infections and do not work on viral infections such as colds or flu.
