Does oxacillin interact with other medications and food?

Do not take any other penicillin-based medications while on oxacillin. These include: amoxicillin (Amoxil, Amoxicot, Biomox, Dispermox, Trimox), ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen), dicloxacillin (Dycill, Dynapen), and penicillin (Beepen-VK, Ledercillin VK, Pen-V, Pen-Vee K, Pfizerpen, V-Cillin K, Veetids and others).

Talk to your doctor before taking cephalosporins, such as Ceclor, Ceftin, Duricef and Keflex, while on oxacillin. Talk with your doctor before taking methotrexate (Rheumatrex, Trexall) or probenecid (Benemid), as these may prolong the levels of oxacillin in your blood. Tetracycline may diminish the effects of oxacillin when the two medications are taken together. Oxacillin also decreases the efficacy of birth control pills.
