Who can benefit from deep brain stimulation?

Not everyone with a movement disorder is a candidate for deep brain stimulation surgery. A patient who may benefit, is one who:

  • Is dissatisfied with an increasing loss of control of movement that arises from movement disorders, such as dystonia and others
  • Experiences a diminished quality of life due to symptoms
  • Has already experienced a reasonable trial of medications
