Can antivirals help Parkinson's disease patients?

Normally, antivirals are used to treat diseases caused by viruses, but doctors have also learned that they can relieve the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

The antiviral drug Amantadine (brand name Symmetrel) can reduce slow movements, tremor and fatigue in Parkinson's patients. It can be administered by itself, or combined with a dopamine agonist or levodopa.
