Who is most affected by parasitic infections?

Parasitic infections mostly affect people who live in or visit rural areas of developing nations or other places that do not follow modern sanitary practices. The environment in tropic and subtropic countries is also more conducive to the survival of some parasitic illness (such as the mosquito-borne malaria). Exposure to the parasites that cause the condition is much greater in those areas. People with immune systems that have been weakened by disease or medication are also at greater risk to be affected by parasitic infections.
