How can I protect my children from parasitic infections?

Parasites thrive in unsanitary conditions and can be introduced into the human body through the ingestion of contaminated food or through the bite of mosquitoes and certain flies. Children are exposed to parasites most commonly either through unclean food or water or from the bite of an insect such as a sand fly or mosquito. Limiting your children's exposure to parasites is the best way to protect them from parasitic infections.

One of the most important ways to help prevent parasitic infections is to teach children the importance of washing hands correctly with soap and warm water.

You can protect your children from toxoplasmosis by being extra vigilant whenever they are around cats. Teach your children to wash their hands after playing with the cat and never to touch its feces.

Limiting children's exposure to parasites is the best way to protect them from parasitic infections. Children are exposed to parasites most commonly either through unclean food or water or from the bite of an insect such as a sand fly or mosquito. In some cases, a mother with a parasitic infection can pass it to her unborn child.
