How is the parasitic skin infection lice treated?

Lice is one type of parasitic skin infection. There are three kinds of lice, and each one is treated differently. Head lice and pubic lice are treated effectively with over-the-counter, nonprescription shampoos. These products, which contain pyrethrin, usually work well, but if they do not kill the parasites, prescription medications can be used. Body lice does not need to be treated because the insects do not live on the host, but in clothing and bedding. The way this condition is treated is by washing the items thoroughly with nonprescription or prescription products. Research has shown that hot air also kills head lice. It is recommended that about 30 minutes of heat, at a temperature that is a little cooler than a normal blow dryer, will kill lice.
