How do parasitic infections affect the body?

Parasitic infections affect the body in a variety of ways, depending on the type of parasite involved. Parasites that enter the body through the mouth, most commonly in unclean food or water, usually affect the digestive system by living and multiplying in the intestines. Other organs can be affected as well as the parasite spreads. Parasites that enter the bloodstream, either by boring through the skin or by being transmitted through the bite of an insect, usually cause a fever and inflammation among other physical problems.
