Your doctor may first treat the condition in the office, using chemicals to draw out and eliminate the mites. But in many cases, demodicosis, or infestation by the mite Demodex folliculorum, is treatable just by washing the face on a regular basis with a gentle soap. Anti-mite medications such as crotamiton or permethrin can also help get rid of Demodex folliculorum. Unfortunately, these medications will not prevent the skin mites from returning.
