Demodex folliculorum is a microscopic mite that lives in the hair follicles on human skin. They live off of oil secretions on the face, particularly near the eyelashes. Because they hate light, they hide in skin pores during the day and move around at night. During their life span of about two weeks, Demodex folliculorum probably will not have any affect on you. Occasionally, they can spread bacteria that can cause an infection or contribute to irritation near your eyelashes. These are minor problems that do not cause the human body harm.
