Lymphatic filariasis is spread from human to human by mosquito bites. Avoiding mosquito bites is the best way to prevent this disease. In the tropical and subtropical parts of the world where the disease is common, sleeping under mosquito nets helps prevent infection. Avoid mosquito bites by wearing long sleeves and trousers. Use mosquito repellent on the face, neck, hands, and other areas of exposed skin, too.
