Curing scabies involves the use of chemicals such as permethrin (5 percent), lindane, crotamiton, and ivermectin. There are no alternatives to these medicines. However, after scabies is cured, itching might persist for weeks. To provide relief from the itching, you can take over-the-counter antihistamines, apply soothing calamine lotion, and keep the irritated patches of skin cool with a wet washcloth.
