Are there alternative treatments for parasitic gastrointestinal infection?

Some types of parasitic gastrointestinal infection without symptoms, in individuals who are unlikely to infect others, can occasionally be managed without prescription medication. These parasitic infections may improve over a period of time. If, however, symptoms develop or evidence of the infection persists, anti-parasite treatment should be taken. In addition to primary anti-parasitic medication, some alternative therapies may be useful in the treatment of intestinal parasites. Increasing oral fluid intake is a good idea. Dietary changes including increasing fiber intake, augmenting one's diet with probiotics, Vitamin C, and/or zinc may also be helpful in dealing with intestinal parasites.
