Is chronic pancreatitis serious?

Chronic pancreatitis is a serious condition that causes irreversible damage to the pancreas and requires medical treatment. If the pancreatic cells that manufacture insulin are damaged, the individual may get diabetes that is difficult to control. Damage to the pancreas puts the individual at greater risk for cancer of the pancreas as well as malnutrition due to decreased digestive enzymes.
