Individuals can help prevent acute pancreatitis by not drinking alcohol. Drinking the equivalent of four bottles of beer (about two ounces) every day for several years can cause acute pancreatitis.
Gallstones also cause acute pancreatitis, and you can adopt a low-fat diet to decrease the likelihood of gallstones. Other ways to help prevent the condition include not using tobacco; avoiding injuries to the abdomen; reducing triglycerides; and in women, not using estrogen if you have high blood levels of lipids.
