Can pancreatic cancer be prevented?

Pancreatic cancer does not have a specific known cause, and therefore, it cannot be effectively prevented. However, you can reduce the risk factors that are in your control. Since smoking is a risk factor, quitting may reduce your risk of pancreatic cancer. Obesity is another risk factor, as is diabetes, so keeping your weight within a healthy range may reduce your risk. In addition, exercising regularly and eating nutritious food like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, may reduce your risk of pancreatic cancer. Reducing risk factors for chronic pancreatitis caused by chronic alcohol intake can also reduce the risk.
