Sharp or burning pain is often associated with nerve pathology. This type of pain can be caused by an imbalance of the musculature that acts on the shoulder blade either from traumatic injury or more often over use. Pathology in and around the shoulder joint can sometimes refer pain to other bordering structures so a full evaluation and diagnosis is necessary before treatment is initiated. If it is determined that it is a muscular problem then appropriate modalities of exercise, flexibility, and/or thermo modalities (ice or heat) can be prescribed by the physician.
