For years, coaches have recommended pineapple to athletes to help heal sports injuries. The reason is bromelain, the key enzyme in pineapple that helps reduce inflammation. For women with carpal tunnel syndrome, there are some findings that eating pineapple may help to reduce tissue swelling. Likewise, a German study found bromelain enzymes resulted in a statistical reduction of pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis, as well as those with rheumatoid arthritis.
