What causes visceral pain?

Several different internal events can trigger visceral pain, or internal body pain. The distension of hollow organs, like the gastrointestinal tract, is a common source. Other physical pressures on organs, like compression, can also cause pain. Visceral pain can also result from inflammation or the interruption of blood flow.
