The pain that accompanies complex regional pain syndrome is very real, although it can be difficult to convince others of this fact. There are real, physiological causes for complex regional pain syndrome, though doctors aren't exactly sure what they are. Additionally, "phantom pain " is a term usually used to describe pain felt in a limb even after it has been amputated.
