What kinds of conditions are pacemakers used to treat?

Pacemakers are used to treat conditions that cause a low heart rate. There are many conditions that result in a disruption of the normal electrical activity of the heart. A pacemaker stimulates the heart to beat at a certain rate should the heart not initiate beats on its own. Some conditions that result in a slow heart rate requiring a pacemaker include sick sinus syndrome and atrioventricular heart block.

Pacemakers are used for several different kinds of heart conditions, including a slowed heartbeat.
