How often are pacemakers checked?

How often a pacemaker needs to be checked varies quite a bit. When a pacemaker is first inserted it needs to be checked frequently, perhaps a few times in the first two weeks. Once it's established that the pacemaker is working properly it can be checked less frequently. A pacemaker that has been working well for over a year is typically checked every three months wirelessly over a telephone line, and is checked in the doctor's office annually.
