Certain treatments for prostate cancer may cause men to develop overactive bladder. One type of cancer treatment is radical prostatectomy. This surgical procedure involves removing the entire prostate gland. This surgery may cause symptoms of overactive bladder. Another leading treatment is external beam radiation, which may cause temporary or permanent bladder problems.
There is no evidence that the overactive bladder causes prostate cancer. However, the symptoms of an overactive bladder could be related to disease of the prostate, such as enlargement and/or cancer.
