While older women tend to get epithelial ovarian cancers, ovarian germ cell tumors affect younger women. Nearly 6 out of 10 ovarian cancers in women under the age of 20 fall into the ovarian germ cell cancer category. Ovarian germ cell tumors also tend to occur more often in Hispanic women than in Caucasian or African American women. The peak incidence occurs between the ages of 15 and 19.
