What are the stages of ovarian germ cell tumors?

An ovarian germ cell tumor that is confined to the ovary is considered stage I. The tumor may affect one or both ovaries. Cancer that has spread to other areas within the pelvis is considered stage II. Cancer that has spread into the abdominal cavity is considered to be stage III. Finally, cancer that has spread to organs beyond the abdominal cavity is considered to be stage IV. Of note, cancer that has invaded the liver is considered stage IV while cancer that has only reached the liver surface, is considered stage III.
