Are there screening tests for ovarian germ cell tumors?

Doctors generally do not screen for ovarian germ cell tumors. Ovarian germ cell tumor cells do release substances called tumor markers into the blood. While these tumor markers may be elevated in those with ovarian germ cell tumors, these are not used in isolation to diagnose or screen for this type of cancer. Tumor markers, which include B human chorionic gonadotropin (B HCG) and A fetoprotein (AFP) may be used to determine prognosis or to measure the effects of treatment.
