Ovarian germ cell tumors can be serious, particularly when they are not diagnosed and treated early. However, this form of cancer carries a better prognosis than other types of ovarian cancer. Early stage dysgerminomas carry a survival rate of over 90 percent. When diagnosed at a later stage, the survival rate is 80 percent. Nearly all early stage immature teratomas are curable, although the survival rate for later stages is roughly 50 percent.
