Elevated levels of this protein are found in malignancies of the pancreas and ovaries, as well as in mesothelioma. Mesothelin has a potential role in diagnosis of early ovarian cancers for high-risk individuals, as its stability is time dependent. Specificity and sensitivity have been shown to be similar to that of CA125. Testing for this protein is noninvasive as levels can be measured in urine.
