Doing a complete hysterectomy or removal of the uterus and cervix is one part of the surgical treatment of ovarian cancer. If detected at an early stage, this can be done with minimally invasive surgery using small incisions or a robotic device where the tissues are magnified and visualized in a three-dimensional high-definition system.
The ovaries and fallopian tubes will also be removed as well as any remaining cancer which has extended beyond the ovaries into the abdomen and pelvis.
I will also "stage" the cancer to determine whether additional or adjuvant therapies such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy will be necessary.
