How effective is platinum as a treatment for recurring ovarian cancer?

There have been a number of platinum-based drug combinations that have shown efficacy in treating ovarian cancer. There is data now suggesting they are a very potent therapeutic approach for the initial or primary cancer. Doctors have been using them in a setting of recurrences with fairly profound effects.

There’s a lot of evidence that shows when women have a recurrence of ovarian cancer and are treated, the next time the interval is shorter. The response rates have approached 100%, meaning a benefit was seen in almost all individuals who have had these drugs for recurring ovarian cancer.
