How accurate are CT scans and MRIs in detecting ovarian cancer?

Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have not been clinically useful for characterization of the adnexa in ovarian cancer screening. They may be used to locate large solid masses and distinguish benign from frankly malignant ovarian tumors, with overall accuracy of 88% to 93%. However, cross-sectional imaging appears less accurate for borderline ovarian tumors and small adnexal masses.
